Tatra Mountains Hiking Weekend with ESN Hungary
Join ESN Hungary and Yes-Trips for a weekend hiking in the High Tatras, the highest mountains in Central Europe, from 9 to 11 October 2026. October is the best time of the hiking year in the Tatras: the larch forests turn gold, the air is crisp and the first snow dusts the peaks.
Hop on our private coach in Budapest, Szeged or Pécs and by lunchtime you’re beside Štrbské Pleso, a glacial lake at 1,350 metres. No flights, no airports, no baggage fees. You’ll stay two nights in a cosy mountain guesthouse with breakfast and dinner included, spend Saturday on a full guided hike in Tatra National Park, and visit Tatranská Lomnica on Sunday before heading home.
It’s the easiest weekend trip from Hungary into real mountains: close to home, but it feels like a different world.

-
Late September to mid-October is the best time of the hiking year: the larch turns gold, the air is clear and the trails are quiet. The higher trails close from 1 November to 31 May, so October is the last chance of the season.
-
Shared mixed rooms in a cosy mountain guesthouse, with breakfast and dinner included both nights.
-
The trip is open to students and travellers aged 18 and over. It’s run with ESN Hungary, so you’ll be hiking with Erasmus and international students from across Hungary.
-
Tickets are non-refundable once booked, but you can transfer your ticket to someone else. The trip needs a minimum of 20 travellers. If that isn’t reached by 5 October, you’ll be told and refunded in full.
