With these 12 tips, you’ll survive Oktoberfest on a student budget guaranteed!

Tip 1: Save on expensive table reservations

Do not make an expensive table reservation and get in line on time so that you can enter the festival grounds for free — some tents close once they’re full. Only 30% of the tables are reserved, and with the help of our fantastic supervisors, you will get an amazing spot!

Tip 2: Pre-drink, but not to much…

When you travel with Yes-Trips, there is no shortage of drinks, but if you want to pre-drink, don’t drink too much. The party is inside, and it would be a shame if you don’t remember anything about it later. So buy beers inside and drink beer the proper way — we’re talking huge beers by the litre. Oh, and of course, you can always save money by sharing a beer — beer drinking is more fun together anyway. You get liters of beer, and if you drink too slowly, you have a warm beer in your hand. You prefer a cold beer, right? Sharing is caring!

Tip 3: A-l-w-a-y-s give a tip to the waiter/waitress

You probably prefer not to read this, but no tip is unfortunately not an option. Tip is an appreciation to the hard-working staff, because of them this event can take place. In addition, the staff don’t get a salary, so if you don’t tip, keep in mind that they might throw you out.

Tip 4: Did someone say souvenir?

Did you know that people often smuggle beer mugs? Don’t steal a glass from any of the tents, especially the popular tents where security is strict, because the bouncers will be watching you. But look around outside the tent if you see glasses lying around. Rinse it at home, and you’ve scored a budget-proof souvenir! Make sure you hide the glass when you leave the site because the security sometimes wants to take your glass, such a shame….

Tip 5: Don’t do drugs

Beer, beer, and more beer, drugs are absolutely not suitable for Oktoberfest and are also completely illegal, so leave them at home, save money, and avoid a fine!

Tip 6: Outfit rules

Did you know that Paris Hilton was banned from Oktoberfest in 2006 for wearing a gold-coloured dress? With this, she insulted the local population… so play safe and choose the traditional colours red, green, or blue. You can easily style your outfit yourself if you have a chequered blouse, for example. Do you have a little more to spend? Spice it up and rent a traditional outfit, like a traditional Bavarian Dirndl, so your Oktoberfest experience cannot go wrong!

Look how these girls rock their traditional customs! Pretty awesome, right?

Tip 7: The Dirndl bow says it all..

Ladies and gentlemen, attention! Is a woman wearing her traditional Bavarian Dirndl bow on the right? Then she’s single! If she wears the bow on the left, unfortunately, she’s already taken. Good to know before you approach her.

Tip 8: Do not buy continuously at the snack bars

You guessed it, there are dozens of stalls on the site that try to tempt you with deliciously fragrant dishes such as fried chicken, sausage, and pretzels. But you came to Oktoberfest on a student budget and the food is just expensive, we can’t deny that. And if you do it right, you won’t even enjoy these dishes because of all the beer that rushes through your body.

Budget and the culinary delights of Oktoberfest are not a good combination. So check out what you can get outside the site, for example the many beer gardens that you will find in Munich. In these pleasant spaces, you will find the best beers and dishes all year round at an attractively lower price than at Oktoberfest. Imagine; you live in the Middle Ages and attend a local wedding, where folk tunes are shouted from the body. So now you know how you will experience a beer garden. After enjoying the beer garden on a student budget, you can return to the Oktoberfest tents, or even try a wine tent if you want something different. That way, you haven’t really missed anything, and you can enjoy two types of parties!

By the way, make sure you can leave and re-enter, most tents, especially the major tents, don’t always allow this during busy hours. This is sometimes difficult, especially on Saturday afternoons! You can check which ones are open and closed via the Oktoberfest website and the official Oktoberfest app.

Tip 9: Pick your own transportation method

We offer an attractive package including buses from various cities in Europe for a student budget. Do you prefer to travel independently? Then you can always determine your own means of transport, for example, go by train or plane to Munich Oktoberfest.

Tip 10: Travel around Munich by public transport

We understand that a taxi is easy and fast, but it is quite pricey! Take a look at the metro, bus or tram, for example, a day ticket is only €6, so you travel really cheap!

Tip 11: Stay at a campsite (ours, of course)

Not only will you save on expensive hotel costs, but you will be in the party environment of the Oktoberfest festival grounds 24/7, an experience you will never forget. You can also choose another campsite, but they are, of course, not like us…

Imagine waking up and feeling the sunshine on your face after a great first day…. just wow!

Tip 12: Time to speak like a local!

Did you know that the locals use a dialect during Oktoberfest? The Bavarian dialect is spoken throughout the festival. Learn here the five most important phrases that you will soon be able to use in the beer tents — even in the famous Hofbräu tent:

  • “I hätt gern a Maß!” – I would like a liter of beer!
  • “Servus” – Hello
  • “Oans, Zwei, Drei, Gsuffa!” – Cheers
  • “Zoin Biddsheen?” – Can I pay?
  • “Ich bin ganz schee bsuffa!” – I’m quite drunk!
